Tigers snap up Chiefs lock
Leicester Tigers have agreed a move for second row forward Mike Fitzgerald from the Chiefs.
Auckland-born Fitzgerald has won two Super Rugby titles with the Chiefs as well as playing club rugby with Manawatu.
At 198cm and 114kg, the 28-year-old is noted for his hard work in the forward pack as well as his set-piece and defensive work.
Leicester's Director of Rugby Richard Cockerill said: "Mike [Fitzgerald] will be a good addition to our group of locks, especially with the retirement of Louis Deacon and Brad Thorn."
"He has played in very good company at the Chiefs and now wants the experience of playing rugby in Europe."
Fitzgerald is the latest new signing announcement by the Tigers following news of the arrival of Australia wing Peter Betham from the Waratahs.
The club has already announced the addition of forwards Opeti Fonua, Brendon O'Connor and Mike Williams to the squad for next season.
Fitzgerald said: "I have loved my time playing for the Chiefs and the Turbos [Manawatu] in New Zealand but feel it's the right time to make the move with my young family across to England.
"We're excited about linking up with the Tigers and settling into Leicester.
"I like the style of play and type of rugby the Tigers are known for and I am looking forward to testing myself in the Premiership and in Europe."
