Tony Brown reveals coaching future
SPOTLIGHT: Springbok assistant coach Tony Brown revealed his coaching future following rumours of jumping ship to his native New Zealand.
Following Scott Robertson’s shock axing as head coach of the All Blacks, rumours started spreading regarding his successor for the vacant post of the top job in New Zealand Rugby.
Former Highlanders, Japan and Sunwolves coach Jamie Joseph’s name has been linked as one of the favourites to replace Robertson, which sparked debate amongst the rugby public about who Joseph would appoint as his assistants should he get the position.
One name that immediately came to mind is Brown. Joseph and Brown shared great coaching history together with the above-mentioned teams, which includes a Super Rugby title with the Highlanders in 2015.
Brown, who is under contract with the Boks until the 2027 World Cup, transformed the world champions into an expansive attacking team within the DNA of South African Rugby, which is based on forward dominance.

The 51-year-old former All Black flyhalf cleared any doubts on his coaching future, stating that he is locked in with the Boks and that there has been no contact from New Zealand Rugby.
“I’m obviously contracted,” Brown told Paul Cully from The Post on Monday.
“I don’t have an out of my contract, so I’m back in South Africa [until the 2027 World Cup].
Brown rubbished the talk of joining the All Blacks as ‘speculation’ when asked if he would be keen to return to New Zealand as an assistant coach for the national side.
“Everything’s just speculation. I’m not even sure what New Zealand Rugby’s plans are. No one’s really heard anything,” Brown said.
