Umaga faces misconduct hearing

The New Zealand Rugby Union has initiated a misconduct process with Counties Manukau coach Tana Umaga.

The misconduct process follows a discussion Umaga allegedly had with match officials in the wake of Counties Manukau's 20-22 loss to Auckland at Eden Park last Wednesday (September 4).

The misconduct process will also consider media comments allegedly made by Umaga after the match.

General Manager Professional Rugby Neil Sorensen said the first step was to hold a meeting with Umaga and his representatives once all parties could agree on a date.

"It's pretty important that we let Tana and others involved have a fair opportunity to make their submissions and for that reason we won't be commenting further until the process is concluded," Sorensen said.
