VIDEO: The Bok star who could turn the tide against All Blacks
WATCH as Springbok assistant coach Duane Vermeulen speaks about the importance of the inclusion of a star player in the matchday squad to face New Zealand in Wellington.
Bok No.8 Wiese returns to action after being suspended for four matches for a red card offence contrary to Law 9.12 (striking with the head) during the second Incoming Series Test against Italy in Gqeberha.
The Boks struggled with the No.8 position since Jean Luc du Preez’s recent injury setbacks, with Siya Kolisi shifting from his usual No.6 position to No.8 against Australia and New Zealand.
Kolisi is back in the No.6 jumper with Wiese at No.8 and Pieter-Steph du Toit donning the No.7 jersey in a much more balanced loose trio.
Wiese’s inclusion provides the Bok pack with a strong runner and ball carrier who is known for getting the side over the advantage line.
Kolisi did well in his absence, but the specialist No.8 gives the Boks a different dynamic up front.
New Zealand’s counter-ruck tactics hurt the Boks at crucial times in the Eden Park loss, and Wiese will be a crucial figure in aiding to prevent a repeat of this tactic by the world’s No.1 ranked side.

“It’s great to have Jasper [Wiese] back in the mix.
“He’s one of the guys who really gives us go-forward ball.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what he brings to the game.
“We’re still playing with a good pack, but he will be the link between the pack and the backline we selected, which is an exciting one.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what he brings to the party, and it will be great to have him back”
