VIDEO: Whitelock opens up on big transition ahead of Bok clash
WATCH as double World Cup-winning and retired All Black lock Sam Whitelock speaks about his experience transitioning from playing to coaching.
As a player, Whitelock has won it all.
Seven Super Rugby titles with the Crusaders, two World Cups, 10 Freedom Cups and 15 Bledisloe Cups with New Zealand amongst many other accolades.
Whitelock’s last appearance in a black jersey was in the 2023 World Cup Final, which South Africa won.
Now a forwards coach with the Barbarians, he is determined to share his experience with the next generation of players.
The article continues below…
“It’s been different [going from playing to coaching]. I still travel with my mouth guard that stays in my bag,” Whitelock jokingly told @rugby365com.
“I’ve enjoyed the challenge of helping out the next generation.
“I’ve had some amazing players, coaches and management helping me out with some things that are small and some bigger things.
“Hopefully, I’m passing on some of that knowledge to the next generation because I would be distraught with myself if I didn’t do that.
“It doesn’t mean my opinion is right, but it just means that they can make decisions for themselves.”
