Weepu not fully recovered
All Black Piri Weepu has not fully recovered from the stroke that interrupted his career earlier this year.
The 30-year-old scrumhalf had minor heart surgery last month, to fix a hole in his heart – which was thought to have been the cause of a minor stroke he suffered.
Weepu, speaking to ONE News in New Zealand, admitted he's still recovering from the condition.
"The way I talk still hasn't come back to normal,'Weepu said, adding: "[I am] still trying to find words to say in conversations or the right word anyway, sometimes kind of stuttering and things like that.
"The boys were mocking me before, when I was trying to explain things to them.
"It's still, I guess on the mend, trying to make sure I work hard on it and just monitoring with the doc in terms of working hard and getting my speech sorted."
Weepu is to have a heart scan to ensure that everything is okay.
"If I need to talk to a speech therapist then I will go along that road and see how things go."
The playing future of Weepu is still slightly up in the air.
He is hoping that he'll be fit enough to take to the field against the Hurricanes at Eden Park on Saturday, after battling a groin injury for the past couple of weeks.
