Former Stormer breaks Six Nations record
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Not only was Scotland’s win over England the standout result of Round Two in the Six Nations, but Huw Jones also etched his name into the history books with a record-breaking performance.
Jones was instrumental in Scotland’s 31-20 victory on Saturday, crossing the line twice in a display of pace, awareness and clinical finishing.
The centre, a former Stormers standout, set the tone early. Swerving around England captain Maro Itoje, he finished off a slick backline move to claim the first of Scotland’s four tries and ignite the contest.
He struck again early in the second half. After Matt Fagerson charged down George Ford’s attempted drop goal, Jones reacted quickest – sprinting in from halfway to score Scotland’s fourth try and put the result beyond doubt. The effort sealed a deserved bonus point for the Dark Blues.
The brace marked his third double in a Scotland jersey and saw him become Scotland’s all-time leading try-scorer in Six Nations history, taking his tally in the championship to 18.
Jones also boasts a formidable record against England, with eight tries in eight appearances against the old rivals.
In total, he has now scored 25 tries in 60 Tests for Scotland.
