Scotland's Six Nations campaign just got tougher

INJURY UPDATE: Scotland suffered a huge blow with the news that captain Sione Tuipulotu has been ruled out of the upcoming Six Nations.

Scotland confirmed the news via an official statement on Monday.

The statement revealed that Tuipulotu sustained a pectoral muscle injury during training with Glasgow Warriors last week.

The 27-year-old will undergo surgery which will see him miss the tournament.

Tuipulotu is one of two players, who is on the casualty list.

Glasgow Warriors head coach Franco Smith said of the injury.

“It was a freakish injury.

“It was just something that happened. We weren’t suspicious about it, we just wanted to make sure it was nothing serious.”

Scott Cummings will also be sidelined after he fractured his arm during Glasgow Warriors’ match against Leicester Tigers at the weekend.

In the absence of Tuipulotu, Rory Darge and Finn Russell will co-captain Scotland in this year’s Six Nations.

The official statement read: “Following an injury to Sione Tuipulotu, Rory Darge and Finn Russell will co-captain Scotland in this year’s Six Nations.

“Darge and Russell led the side in the 2024 championship, in a famous victory over Wales and the 30-21 win over England at the Murrayfield.

“Sione Tuipulotu will miss the tournament after sustaining a pectoral muscle injury during a training session with Glasgow Warriors last week.

“Sione will undergo surgery this week and is expected to return to action before the end of the season.

“Scott Cummings sustained an arm fracture during Glasgow Warriors match against Leicester Tigers at the weekend. He is also likely to miss the tournament and will undergo further review to determine when he will be fit to return.

“There will be no additions to the squad at this point.”
