Springboks' second row injury toll rises
NEWS: Another Springbok second row bruiser is on the sidelines as the season draws to a close ahead of the international window.
Ahead of their United Rugby Championship Round 17 clash against Connacht on Saturday, Munster confirmed that lock Jean Kleyn is unavailable for selection.
The 32-year-old was replaced during Munster’s 41-14 win over Ulster two weeks ago after suffering a biceps injury.
He is the latest Bok lock to join the injury list. In March, Leinster’s RG Snyman was ruled out for the season after he ruptured his ACL in his right knee.
Fellow lock Eben Etzebeth, who plays for the Sharks, is also on the sidelines after he suffered a hip injury in his side’s 12-29 Challenge Cup play-off defeat to Connacht.
Salmaan Moerat has been out of action since January with a toe injury. However, he could feature on the Stormers’ upcoming tour.
Meanwhile, Tadhg Beirne (knee), Tom Farrell (shoulder) and Oli Jager (head) are also out for Munster.
There is some good news for the Irish province with Fineen Wycherley (knee) returning to training this week.
Jack Crowley (leg) was a late withdrawal from the Ulster game but is available for selection this week.
Roman Salanoa played 20 minutes as a replacement for Munster ‘A’ in Friday’s win over Connacht Eagles in Galway and moved a step closer to first-team action.
