Big concern for Boks as superstar returns to SA for surgery
NEWS: The Springboks will be sweating over Pieter-Steph du Toit’s fitness ahead of the 2026 international season.
On Friday, his Japanese club, Toyota Verblitz, revealed that he will return to South Africa for surgery after sustaining an undisclosed injury.
The club has subsequently deregistered him from the league in Japan as his absence was described as “long-term”.
The Springboks begin their Nations Championship campaign with a huge match against England at Ellis Park on July 4.
“It has been confirmed that Pieter-Steph du Toit will be taking a long-term leave from Toyota Verblitz,” said a statement from the Japanese side.
“He will undergo surgery for an injury in South Africa. As a result, his league registration will be cancelled.
“As a team, we hope for a speedy recovery. The exact date of joining the team will be announced once it is confirmed.”
