Jantjies, who made his Stormers debut in a dead rubber match against the Sharks in the final round of the 2018 Super Rugby leauge phase, endured an impressive 2019 season that saw him called up to the national side.

The Kylemore-born No.9 had a dream Springbok debut, scoring a brace at Ellis Park and being named as the player-of-the-match.

The week after he was on the scoreboard again against New Zealand in Wellington – when his last-minute try gave Handre Pollard the opportunity to seal a 16-all draw, and effectively seal the Rugby Championship.

The result signalled the fourth time in the two rivals’ 103-year history where they couldn’t be separated.

That impressed Erasmus enough to name him in the 2019 World Cup squad, and becoming the second-choice No.9 ahead of Cobus Reinach and behind Faf de Klerk.

Jantjies enjoyed playing the last five minutes of the 2019 World Cup Final to end a dream debut Test season.

The 28-year-old also won the 2021 British & Irish Lions series and was instrumental in the Stormers’ URC winning campaign in 2022.

The Stormers will miss a player of his calibre but have great up and coming No.9’s in their system such as Imad Kahn and Asad Moos alongside the experienced Paul de Wet and Stefan Ungerer.
