Bok Women put in the hard yards at the World Cup 2025
STAT ATTACK: It has been one of their best World Cup performances produced by the Springbok Women side.
The class of 2025 have punched above their weight, qualifying for their first-ever World Cup quarterfinal.
Ranked 12th before the tournament, they also secured an all-time high of 10th on the World Rugby rankings, a position they hadn’t reached since 2011.
Although their historic campaign came to an end courtesy of a defeat to the Black Ferns in the quarterfinal at Sandy Park, the Bok Women’s performances have certainly raised a few eyebrows – and with good reason.
Over the course of four matches, the Springbok Women recorded their biggest World Cup win, beating Brazil (66-6) and stun Six Nations team Italy (29-24), before defeats to France (10-57) and New Zealand (17-46).
In previous World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014 and 2022), the team had only won three out of 18 matches. At the 2025 showpiece, they finished with a 50 percent success rate – clear evidence of the team’s incredible improvement.
The Springbok Women notched 122 points in total, including a record 19 tries – their highest-ever scoring tally at a World Cup.
The stat is also significant because the only other teams to have scored more were the four semifinalists: New Zealand (202 points, 32 tries), England (248 points, 38 tries), Canada (193 points, 30 tries), and France (183 points, 28 tries).
They also ranked second overall in running metres, with only Canada outperforming them in that category.
The Bok Women They also delivered their best-ever defensive showing. They conceded 133 points and 21 tries – their lowest ever.
