Boland, Bulls Daisies and WP set the tone for Women's Super League

WRAP: Boland Dames produced a commanding display to defeat Free State Women 36-5 in their opening Pick n Pay Women’s Super League 1 fixture at Boland Stadium on Saturday.

Head coach Thomas Chowles will be pleased with the bonus-point win, though improvements in handling and game management remain areas to sharpen ahead of their next outing.

Elsewhere, the Bulls Daisies underlined their dominance with a 100–0 victory over Border Women. Western Province marched to a 51-19 win over Sharks Women, while Eastern Province proved too strong for Golden Lions, securing a 32-12 triumph.

Boland, Bulls Daisies and WP set the tone for Women's Super League

Boland Dames needed just 12 minutes to open their account when Arthea King crossed in the corner. The home side’s dominance upfront soon began to tell, with debutant Tereska Kabuika finishing off sustained pressure for the second try. Another newcomer, Chloe Adams, added a third despite a resilient Free State defence.

Free State responded late in the first half through Sikholiwe “Sne” Mdletshe, but Boland had already secured their bonus point when Springbok Women scrumhalf Felecia Jacobs dotted down. Zinthle Nonkasana added the extras as the Sanlam Boland Dames went into the break leading 22–5.

After halftime, the hosts tightened their grip on proceedings. Captain Aseza Hele led from the front, her physical presence instrumental in earning a yellow card against the visitors. The Sanlam Boland Dames capitalised immediately, with Buthle Sonamzi extending the lead.

Free State struggled to break through the Sanlam Boland Dames’ organised defence. However, fullback Anelca Hess showed flashes of attacking intent before leaving the field with a suspected concussion late in the match.

Boland Dames rounded off the scoring when Rufaru Tagarira crossed in the closing stages, sealing an emphatic six-try victory.

Western Province struck first in Athlone after Alicia Arries intercepted inside her own half to score. Elma Kruger converted for a 7-0 lead.

Province extended their advantage minutes later as Logan Wellman crossed, although Kruger missed the conversion – 12-0 after 10 minutes.

A driving maul then set up Springbok hooker Luchell Hanekom for WP’s third try before Donelle Snyders showed quick feet to release Arries for her second.

WP were firmly in control at 27-0.

The Sharks finally broke through near the half-hour mark. After building momentum through a lineout and driving maul, Springbok Tayla Kinsey found space to dive over. Mary Zulu added the extras.

WP responded swiftly. A powerful carry from Nomsa Mokwai set the platform for Wellman to score again, sending the hosts into the sheds with a comfortable 34-7 lead.

Province maintained their dominance in the second half. After sustained pressure, Alicia Willemse crossed, with Kruger converting to stretch the lead to 41-7.

The Sharks hit back through a rolling maul, with Lindelwa Gwala scoring their second, but WP proved too strong, adding two more tries to complete a convincing 51-19 win.

Results:

Western Province 51-19 Sharks Women
Golden Lions 12-32 Eastern Province Women
Border Women 0-100 Bulls Daisies
Boland Dames 36-5 Free State Women
