Bulls Daisies bring in WP duo to boost pack

TRANSFER NEWS: Bulls Daisies have bolstered their forward pack with the signing of two standout talents.

Springbok women’s tighthead prop Azisa Mkiva and rising junior international Bronishia Mishaan Hess will join the Bulls Daisies.

Mkiva, affectionately known as “Azi,” arrives with 14 national caps and a wealth of experience from Western Province, where she’s played Premier Division rugby since 2019. Originally from Qobo Qobo in the Eastern Cape, Mkiva also represented Busy Bee in Cape Town and holds a qualification in Business Management from the College of Cape Town.

“It feels good to be here,” Mkiva said.

“I’m excited about the challenge. A new environment allows me to grow as a player and human being. I cannot wait to play my part in growing the Bulls Daisies’ history.”

Thando Manana, the Head of High Performance at the Blue Bulls Company, praised Mkiva’s pedigree and physicality: “Azisa is a great addition to our forward pack heading into next season. She’s a proven tighthead with experience at the top level of the game and adds depth to our new-look front row. She’s a powerful ball carrier and top scrummager.”

Joining Mkiva is 2024 Junior Springbok standout Bronishia Mishaan Hess, known as “Nisha” or “Hessie.” A versatile forward who plays both hooker and No.8, Hess has earned two junior caps and has been a regular presence at senior Springbok camps. She played Premier Division rugby for Western Province and club rugby for Van de Stel and the Rhinos R10C Academy.

“I can’t wait to join the Bulls Daisies and be part of the winning tradition,” Hess said.

“I’m especially looking forward to making my debut at my new home stadium, Loftus Versfeld.”

Manana highlighted Hess’s dynamic skill set and potential: “Her ball-carrying ability clearly sets her apart from some of the Junior Women’s Springboks.

She was statistically one of the best in the recent SA Rugby U20 provincial competition. She’s a class act and will be expected to create turnovers, offloads, and bring strength in defence.”

The signings reflect the Daisies’ continued commitment to building a competitive and empowered squad ahead of the new season. Both players are expected to play key roles in shaping the team’s identity and performance on the field.
