Fourie injury adds to Bok concerns
Star scrumhalf Fourie du Preez has been added to an alarmingly long list of injured Springbok players, ahead of the Rugby Championship – which is less than six weeks away.
Du Preez suffered an ankle injury 30 minutes into South Africa's 55-6 demolition of Scotland in Port Elizabeth at the weekend.
Bok coach Heyneke Meyer admitted that he was concerned about his availability for the Rugby Championship.
"I am very worried about Fourie," Meyer told a post-match media briefing at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in PE.
"I think he [Du Preez] is still the best scrumhalf in the world and you could just see that Handré looked brilliant next to him," Meyer added.
"The way he gives input on attack, he controls the game, his kicking game as well, so I am really worried.
"There is a big concern there and just really hope he will be ready for the Rugby Championship, but we still have two other No.9s."
Fourie is the latest addition to a long list of injured players, who were not available for selection for the June Tests, or ruled out because of injury
The list include frontline players like Tendai Mtawarira (neck), Flip van der Merwe (knee), Willem Alberts (concussion), Bakkies Botha (Achilles), Juan de Jongh (chest infection), Jean de Villiers (knee), Damian de Allende (knee), Eben Etzebeth (foot), Jaque Fourie (ankle), Pat Lambie (bicep), Frans Malherbe (concussion), Siyabonga Ntubeni (foot), Frik Kirsten (neck), Pieter-Steph du Toit (knee), Franco van der Merwe (ankle), Arno Botha (knee), Pierre Spies (bicep), Louis Schreuder (hand) and Gio Aplon (elbow).
