Graphic videos of Newlands beating
Two video clips have revealed how a woman was injured as she tried to stop a fight during the recent Stormers and Crusaders match at Newlands.
The beginning of one clip shows a woman trying to intervene and reason with the hostile spectators at the Easter weekend match.
The fight escalates within seconds and at least eight men can be seen throwing punches, with one burly man punching from behind.
The burly man is seen hitting the woman in the face as she tries to stop the fighting by pushing him away. The impact of the blow sees her body bouncing back and her head hits a chair.
She was later put in a neck brace and a stretcher used to carry her away.
ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson told the newspaper they had been at the scene but that she was unable to give details on the severity of the incident.
Western Province Rugby spokesman Howard Kahn said he was aware of the video clips but unable to comment.
Last week, the Stormers were booed as they exited their team bus before the match.
Western Cape sports MEC Ivan Meyer was previously quoted as saying he had proposed strict new measures to deal with unruly sporting fans.
He proposed more security at rugby venues, a year-long ban for unruly fans and CCTV cameras to monitor the crowd, identify bad behaviour and stop potential confrontations before they escalated.
* Meanwhile Four of the five men accused of beating a former Royal Marine to death outside a match in Durban are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday for their formal bail application.
At the men's last court appearance last Thursday, one of the five was released on R2000 bail.
Magistrate Vanitha Armu ordered that the names and pictures of the five men not be published. They are accused of beating Brett Williams, 29, to death at a Super XV match in Durban last month.
The four still awaiting their bail hearing each face a murder charge. All five face charges of crimen injuria and assault with the intention to commit grievous bodily harm.
Prosecutor Krishen Shah told the court: "By Monday the State will have formulated its stance with regard to a bail application.
The four facing murder charges have been held at the Durban North police station.
Armu ordered that all five report for an identity parade on Monday morning before appearing in court again in the afternoon.
The Mercury newspaper on Friday reported that the men's lawyers agreed to help find 25 look-alikes for the identity parade.
