Joost added to Hall of Fame

Former Springbok scrumhalf Joost van der Westhuizen is part of a list of 37 players who are set to be inducted into the IRB Hall of Fame this year.

 

Van der Westhuizen is one of five Springbok legends along side Naas Botha, Morné du Plessis, Danie Gerber, Hennie Muller who are part of the list.

 

Regarded as one of South Africa's best scrumhalfs, Van der Westhuizen went on to earn 89 caps for the national team between 1993 and 2003 and has the honour of being part of the first ever South African team to win the World Cup when the Springboks triumphed on home soil in 1995.

 

There are other big names in rugby that have also made the list with Colin Meads, Grant Fox, Don Clarke, Sean Fitzpatrick and current Blues coach  John Kirwan (all from New Zealand) making the list.

 

While JPR Williams (Wales), Jean-Pierre Rives (France) and Australia's Tim Horan also make the cut

 

Legendary Scottish commentator Bill McLaren will also be inducted.

 

There are a number of Springbok legends that are already part of the Hall of Fame, such as Danie Craven, Frik du Preez, Bennie Osler, Francois Pienaar and most recent Springbok World Cup winner, John Smit.
