Province board has a new chairman
NEWS: The Western Province boardroom drama added another chapter with the appointment of a new Chairman.
Zelt Marais, President of the WP Rugby Football Union, confirmed to @rugby365com that political firebrand Ebrahim Rasool is the new Chairman of the board of WP Professional Rugby (Pty) Ltd – the professional arm of the WPRFU
“He [Rasool] was confirmed as the Chairperson at the meeting yesterday [Friday],” Marais said.
Rasool has previously held several high-profile political positions – including being the South African Ambassador to the United States and a member of the national assembly.
He replaced Johan van der Merwe as Chairman of the board.
It follows the culling of two independent directors of the board, Van der Merwe and Andre van der Veen.
Van der Veen’s post still has to be filled.
Other than the appointment of Rasool’s appointment, Friday’s meeting produced no real drama.
