D-day set for red-carded Bok
NEWS: Springbok lock Lood de Jager will learn his fate on Tuesday ahead of South Africa’s Test against Italy.
De Jager was handed a permanent red card during the Springboks’ 32-17 win over France on Saturday in Paris.
The Springboks played with 14 players after the second row’s shoulder charge on fullback Thomas Ramos in the 39th minute.
On Monday, a date was set for De Jager’s disciplinary hearing.
The Nations Series released an official statement confirming the news.
“South Africa No.5, Lood de Jager, will attend an independent disciplinary hearing after he was awarded a permanent red card by Angus Gardner [referee] for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.16 [A player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grasp that player] in the Nations Series match between France and South Africa on Saturday, November 8,” the Nations Series statement read.
“The player will attend the hearing via video conference before an independent Disciplinary Committee chaired by Jennifer Donovan [Ireland], joined by Val Toma [Romania] and Donal Courtney [Ireland].
“The hearing will take place on Tuesday, November 11, at 15.00 South African time [13.00 GMT].”
The Springboks will take on Italy this weekend, followed by matches against Ireland and Wales.
