SARU boss challenged for top job

Alexander, who was elected unopposed as SARU President in October 2016 after predecessor Oregon Hoskins resigned, has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons recently.

He was in the firing line for his decision to support former South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee CEO Tubby Reddy – after an investigation found the latter guilty of sexual harassment.

He denied claims that he supported the disgraced Reddy and other suggestions – such as having taken 'kick-backs' for arranging sponsorship deals.

Alexander will be challenged by André May of the Leopards for the role of SARU President.

Deputy President Francois Davids also faces a challenge for his position – from Jan Marais of the Griffons.

All the nominations:

President:

Mark Alexander (incumbent President)

André May (Leopards)

Deputy President:

Francois Davids (incumbent Deputy President)

Jan Marais (Griffons)

Executive Council:

Vivian Lottering (incumbent – Falcons)

Schalk Liebenberg (KwaZulu-Natal)

Hein Mentz (Pumas)

Lindsay Mould (Free State)

Arthob Petersen (Boland)

JJ van der Mescht (Blue Bulls)

Thelo Wakefield (Western Province)

The General Council Meeting will take place on Friday, April 6.
