SARU hosting African leaders
SARU will host the Leading Rugby Programme for Africa rugby administrators in Cape Town from February 17-19.
Chief Executive Officers, National Technical Directors and Development Managers in charge of rugby from seven African countries will all gather in Cape Town for the conference. A women’s rugby workshop will also be hosted from February 19-21.
The countries participating in the conference are Senegal, Madagascar, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Uganda.
Apart from various discussions and working sessions relating to the business of rugby and strategies to grow the game, the spotlight will also fall on the development of Women’s rugby on the African continent.
Several senior SARU management staff will also participate in the programme.
Jurie Roux, the SARU CEO, emphasised the importance for South African rugby administrators to share their skills, knowledge and experience with their fellow African administrators to assist in the growth and development of the sport on the continent.
“Delegates will identify and discuss the various challenges their respective unions are facing during the conference with the objective of managing and developing the game. The African continent offers a huge opportunity to grow the game of Rugby and these delegates are ideally placed to pinpoint the assistance they would need from World Rugby, Rugby Africa as well as SARU,” said Roux.
The SARU CEO added: “SARU is already assisting the development of the game through various initiatives on the continent. The delegates also interact with our senior management staff to gather further knowledge in respect of corporate governance, marketing and communication as well as player and match official developments. SARU is looking forward to welcoming and hosting Africa’s top administrators.”
