South Africa's legendary captain reveals future plans

NEWS: Springbok Women captain Nolusindiso “Cindy” Booi has confirmed her next step following her retirement.

Booi has been appointed the National Women’s Relationship Manager at MyPlayers, a joint initiative with SA Rugby (SARU).

This appointment is both timely and strategic, reflecting the continued growth of women’s rugby in participation, performance and visibility. The role provides a single, dedicated point of contact to support players, strengthen relationships and ensure alignment across unions, national structures and key stakeholders.

Booi adds invaluable experience and first-hand insight into the women’s rugby landscape. She began her senior rugby career with Border in 2007 and confirmed her retirement following the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.

She retired with 55 Test caps, concluding her international career as the most capped Springbok Women player of all time and the most capped captain in the women’s game, having led South Africa in 26 internationals. Her leadership, experience and deep understanding of the game uniquely position her to represent and support players during a critical phase of growth for women’s rugby.

On her appointment, Booi said: “It’s a privilege to move from representing the Springbok Women on the field to supporting them through MyPlayers and SARU with the same commitment, pride and purpose.”

Isma-eel Dollie, General Manager: Rugby Operations at MyPlayers, said: “Cindy’s appointment marks a significant step in strengthening our support structures within the women’s game. Her experience, credibility and deep understanding of the game will ensure that players’ voices are heard and represented as the women’s game continues to grow.”

Dave Wessels, General Manager: High Performance at SA Rugby, added: “Cindy has been an outstanding ambassador for SA Rugby, both as a player and as national captain. We are delighted that she will continue to make her mark within our women’s programme through this new role. We are also grateful to MyPlayers for backing this initiative, which will benefit women players across the game.”
