Strauss handed major vote of confidence by Blue Bulls
NEWS: Willem Strauss will serve a third consecutive term as Blue Bulls Rugby Union president after being re-elected unopposed, underlining the confidence in his leadership.
Strauss, who has held the position for eight years, has overseen significant growth across the union, from amateur and school rugby to the professional game.
His tenure has coincided with major success for the Vodacom Bulls, Bulls Daisies, junior national teams and university rugby, while initiatives such as the revived Gold Cup and platteland rugby tournament have expanded opportunities for amateur players.
Blue Bulls Company co-majority shareholder Dr Johann Rupert praised Strauss for bringing stability throughout the rugby system.
“Willem has given us stability, and it runs through the whole ecosystem, from schools and clubs to women’s rugby and the senior franchise team,” Rupert said.
Blue Bulls Rugby Union vice-president Ben Eybers also welcomed Strauss’s re-election, crediting his passion and initiative for taking the union to the next level.
Strauss has also played a key role in securing investment and commercial stability through partnerships with business leaders Dr Patrice Motsepe and Rupert.
Motsepe congratulated Strauss on his unopposed re-election, praising the performance of the union’s clubs and the strength of its management structures.
