Tributes pour in following South African-born international coach's passing
NEWS: South African-born coach and founder of the Rugby Creative programme, Warren Abrahams, sadly passed away at the age of 43 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Born in the Western Cape, Abraham’s coaching career following his playing days for Durbell and Stellenbosch University has been a decorated one.
He’s been the head coach of the Wales Women’s side between October 2020 to August 2021.
His journey continued as a coaching consultant with the Brazilian Women’s Sevens side between August 2021 and October 2024.
He also had stints as an academy coach for Premiership side Harlequins, senior England Sevens coach and an assistant Women’s Sevens coach with the USA.
Abrahams was the head coach of the Belgium Women’s Sevens side, preparing for a tournament in Nairobi, Kenya, when he suddenly passed away.
The reason for his passing remains unknown.

Tributes streamed in immediately from the Belgian Rugby Federation and Harlequins for their former mentor’s passing.
“Belgium Rugby is in mourning following the sudden death of Warren Abrahams, head coach of the BelSevens,” the Belgium Rugby Federation said in a statement.
“All necessary measures have been taken to best support the players and staff.
“The team has already returned to Belgium and will continue to receive psychological support to help them through this ordeal.”
