It will take place on Thursday in Cape Town, and the best of the current crop will receive their well-deserved flowers for their contribution to the game in 2024.

The nominees were announced in December of last year.

In the next few days, leading up to the awards, Rugby365 will give readers a chance to vote for their favourites.

In the first category, we will look at the SA Rugby Young Player of the Year award.

The shortlist reflects the incredible young talent South Africa has, with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, Cameron Hanekom, Jordan Hendrikse, Quan Horn and Henco van Wyk all making the cut.

While it is difficult to select the ultimate winner, only one can walk away with the title.

More about SA Rugby Young Player of the Year nominees:

Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu:

Born on February 22, 2002, the 23-year-old plays his rugby at the Stormers.

Feinberg-Mnomezulu is a utility back and is comfortable at flyhalf and inside centre.

An interesting fact about the young man is that he is eligible to play for England through his father Nick Feinberg. However, he opted for the Springboks and in June 2024 made his Test debut against Wales.

Cameron Hanekom

Hailing from Ceres in the Western Province, the 22-year-old is at the Bulls.

The former Junior Springbok can play lock, flank and No.8.

Touted as the next Duane Vermeulen, Hanekom made his Springbok debut in November against Wales.

Jordan Hendrikse

Known as Jaden Hendrikse’s brother, Jordan is a 23-year-old who is forcing his way to the top as well.

He played for the Lions before moving to the Sharks in July.

Hendrikse, who can play flyhalf and fullback, made his Springbok debut against Wales in June.

Quan Horn

Born on June 27, 2001, in the Western Cape, the Paarl Boys’ alum is currently at the Lions.

He joined the Lions in 2022 and can play fullback and wing.

Horn made his Springbok debut on July 20 against Portugal and he scored a try in that match.

Henco van Wyk

The 23-year-old was born in Rustenburg and is also plying his trade at the Lions.

His regular position is outside centre.

Van Wyk was named the Junior Springbok Player of the Year in 2021.

An interesting fact about Van Wyk is that he has earned the nickname “Weapon X”, which is a nod to the Marvel character Wolverine and an homage to American football player Brian Dawkins, known for his relentless aggression and similar playing style.
