World Rankings: Boks close gap on All Blacks
SPOTLIGHT: Following the Springboks bouncing back against Australia and Argentina’s shock win over the All Blacks, there have been significant changes to the latest World Rankings.
South Africa lost their top spot a week ago following their shock defeat to Australia at Ellis Park, losing three ranking points in the process and dropping down to third place on 89.78 points.
New Zealand overtook the World Champions at the top on 92.51 points.
But as they say, a week in rugby is a long time.
South Africa’s revenge on the Wallabies this past Saturday gained them a mere 0.23 points, but it was enough to elevate them to second place as Ireland dropped down to third following New Zealand’s defeat to Argentina.
Despite Australia’s loss and Argentina’s win, neither team made any movement on the rankings table with the rest Top 10 remaining intact.
The upcoming Tests at Eden Park and the Wellington Regional Stadium, where the Boks will face New Zealand, will, in all likelihood, see more changes to the top three.
Australia and Argentina are also hotly contesting for a higher spot on the table, with Los Pumas currently behind with a decent margin of 1.45 ranking points behind the Wallabies.
