VIDEO: 'Would Duhan make the Boks' starting XV?'

WATCH as former Springbok coach Nick Mallett compares Scotland’s Duhan van der Merwe with the current Springbok wings.

As he has done in the past against England, the 29-year-old produced a man-of-the-match performance at Twickenham over the weekend.

Van der Merwe used his power and speed to play key roles in his side’s two first-half tries before he scored his team’s third in the 79th minute.

Flyhalf Finn Russell, who had an off day with the boot, missed the conversion as the Scots fell agonisingly short in a 15-16 defeat.

In the latest episode of Boks Office, host Hanyani Shimange had an interesting question for his guests, Mallett and former Bok centre Jean de Villiers.

“Would he [Van der Merwe] make the Bok starting XV?”, asked Shimange.

Mallett responded by saying: “Probably not.”

The former Bok coach then explained things further.

“Look he is competing with two completely different players with [Kurt-Lee] Arendse and Cheslin Kolbe and they’ve got magnificent skills,” he added.

“That’s the wonderful thing about rugby. You’ve got a Jonah Lomu style player and then you’ve got people with feet and really good skills, so you take your pick.

“I’m quite happy with what we’ve got.”
