Wales Women seek 'fresh voice' for World Cup 2025
SPOTLIGHT: Wales Women’s head coach Sean Lynn has taken a dramatic step in getting the team ready for the 2025 World Cup in England.
Lynn has opted to remove Hannah Jones as the Wales Women’s captain.
The coach will name her replacements ahead of Wales’ two-match World Cup warm-up tour in Australia in July and August.
“This is a new chapter for the team, and I am determined to drive the change we need with the squad, coaches and staff so that we build real success on solid foundations,” said Lynn.
“A new Wales captain is part of this process, and we have some candidates, but they need to prove they have the qualities to lead the national side.
“Hannah has done a professional job in challenging circumstances that have been well-documented, but we will call for a fresh voice in a deliberate move to grow the leadership within the squad.
“Hannah remains a valued and senior member of the squad. We have enjoyed great success together at club level, and I want us to do the same at the international level.”

Lynn arrived in the Wales head coach role after leading club side Gloucester-Hartpury to the first-ever three-peat in the PWR, winning three consecutive titles, and took over only a week before the 2025 Six Nations began.
The Welshman had initially announced he was keeping Jones as skipper after being in the role for over two years, but has now opted for change.
The question of who will replace the 28-year-old remains to be seen, with Keira Bevan and Alex Callender currently vice-captains.
