Warburton set to sign WRU contract

Wales captain Sam Warburton will reportedly sign a new central contract – a first of its kind – with the Wales Rugby Union (WRU).

As the saga between the WRU and provincial regions continues,  the national governing body aim to snap up Wales' top talent with fresh contracts that include the right to manage players as they see fit.

The Mail on Sunday reports that Warburton's contract will be worth £300,000 a year – a salary above Cardiff Blues' payroll.

The deal will see the WRU loan the Welsh captain to a region, most likely the Blues, and decide in which and how many matches he will play.

The WRU have reportedly offered central contracts to six players whose contracts expire at the end of the season in a bid to keep them in the country.

The other players targeted by the WRU are Leigh Halfpenny, Scott Williams, Alun-Wyn Jones, Adam Jones and Rhys Priestland.
