Gloucester deducted two points
Gloucester have been deducted two points from their final total for the 2014/2015 Premiership season for fielding an ineligible player following a Rugby Football Union appeal.
In April, an independent disciplinary hearing found that Argentinian Mariano Galarza was selected for the Premiership match against Sale Sharks in March, when he did not hold effective registration for Gloucester.
The club was fined £5000 and received a two point deduction, suspended for two years.
However, the RFU decided to appeal that decision, resulting in the points being taken off the season that just ended.
Gloucester CEO Stephen Vaughan confirmed today that the club will not appeal the decision, but were very surprised and disappointed by the RFU's decision to appeal the original outcome.
"We're naturally disappointed by the RFU's decision to appeal the original outcome and the subsequent decision.
"There is no point revisiting the reasons why we feel this is unduly harsh, but can only hope that the reasons were fact based and not due to pressure from other parties.
"In the interests of moving on, and looking forward to the start of a new season, we have accepted the decision and now consider the matter closed.”
The decision however does not affect Gloucester final league position of ninth place.
