Grey believes in NRC

NSW legend and Waratahs assistant coach, Nathan Grey believes the National Rugby Championship is a fantastic addition to the Australian rugby calendar and an important opportunity to develop young NSW talent.

The competition provides a good platform for aspiring NSW youngsters to take their skills to the next level in pursuit of the chance to represent the Waratahs and, ultimately, the Wallabies.

“It is a great opportunity for players to play at a level between club rugby and Super Rugby so that they can learn and develop. It's a fantastic platform to see who has the ability to play at a very high standard and it means we will be able to get the most out of all of the talent that there is on offer,” said Grey.

New South Wales boasts four of the nine sides taking part in the competition: the North Harbour Rays, NSW Country Eagles, Sydney Stars and Greater Sydney Rams.

The inclusion of the NSW Country Eagles is important recognition of the vital role of country rugby in producing NSW rugby legends such as: Steve Merrick, David Carter and Tim Gavin.

Starting on Thursday 21 August, the 11-week competition will see almost 300 players, including current and former Wallabies and Waratahs players as well as the best young talent in the club competition, take part in the nine-team national competition.
