Crumbling history

As time marches on a historic rugby relic slowly degrades into history.

As the Springboks gear up for a Test in Port Elizabeth against Scotland, it is important to remember the history attached to this rugby-mad region.

Boet Erasmus Stadium in PE, named after Boet Erasmus – a former mayor of the city, was officially closed in July 2010 and now lies empty and disregarded.

The Springboks, as well as the Eastern Province Rugby have instead moved to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium which was built for the FIFA Soccer World Cup in 2010.

Sadly, since its close The Boet Erasmus has seen a steady decline inn to dilapidation. Something that should stir up some emotion for those long and loyal supporters from the area.
