Mallett pulls no punches

Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett is known as a no-nonsense guy.

And the record-breaking former mentor of South Africa's national team was as livid as he has ever been after the Boks' fortuitous 16-all draw with Argentina in Mendoza on Saturday.

Now a television analyst, Mallett was filthy with anger in his post-match analysis.

"Andries Bekker was disgraceful," a spitting mad Mallett said.

And he was equally harsh on flyhalf Morné Steyn

"I don't think Steyn has the authority on the field…"

And it didn't stop there.

"Only two players were up to [international] standard – maybe Francois Steyn, because of the charge-down try, and Eben Etzebeth," he said with such anger it appeared he could have a stroke any moment.

Mallett, who is known for having lambasted his own players at media briefings when they were under-performing, said the Boks got a "big shock".

"We can't go into Tests hoping to win with charge-down kicks," he said of the Boks' only try – when Francois Steyn scored late in the second half.

"We have to be more creative," he said, adding: "Our creativity on attack is non existent."
