The price of a semifinal
This weekend there are domestic semifinals in both South Africa and New Zealand, but which is the priciest for the fans?
In SA it is the semifinals of the oldest and most prestigious domestic competition in the world, the Currie Cup – with Western Province hosting the Golden Lions at Newlands and the Sharks at home to the Free State Cheetahs at Kings Perk, both games on Saturday.
The cheapest seat for these games cost ZAR80 (in Durban – the cheapest in Cape Town is ZAR90) and at both venues the top end is ZAR250. That is a price range of just under NZ$10 to just under NZ$30).
In New Zealand the NPC Premier Division semifinals are contested between Wellington and Counties Manukau, in Wellington on Friday, with Canterbury and Auckland going head-to-head in Christchurch on Saturday.
In the NZ games the price ranges is from NZ$6 (about ZAR50) to NZ$50 (about ZAR416) – although the latter is part of a five-ticket package.
In Christchurch tickets are on sale at just NZ$6 per individual and then goes up – NZ$12.50 (ZAR104) for an adult ticket, NZ$17 (ZAR141) for one adult and one child, NZ$18 (ZAR150) for two adults, to NZ$50 (ZAR416) for five adults.
Maybe the demand for tickets in South Africa allows for slightly more pricey seats.
