Injury setback sees Bok Women bring in former soldier
NEWS: The Springbok Women have suffered an injury blow ahead of their Rugby Africa campaign, which kicks off this weekend in Madagascar.
Western Province forward Bronishia Hess picked up an ankle injury and will not travel with the team to Madagascar on Wednesday.
The Bok Women will face Uganda (June 7), Kenya (June 11) and Madagascar (June 15).
Hess, who is the sister of WP captain Shaunique Hess, has been replaced by Bulls Daisies loose forward Ziyanda Ngohlekana.
The 32-year-old Ngohlekana, who is a former soldier, made her international debut for the Springbok Women in 2021 and earned her two caps against Kenya and France.
She started in all but one of the Daisies’ matches this season.
The Springbok Women head into the Rugby Africa Cup as the reigning champions.
The side, regarded as the favourites, will be out to successfully defend their title as they look to create squad depth with the World Cup approaching rapidly.
Bok Women will take on Canada in a two-Test series and will face the Black Ferns XV in July.
