Stormers provide latest update on Bok after surgery
INJURY UPDATE: Springbok and Stormers lock Salmaan Moerat underwent surgery on Friday and is set to be sidelined for four months.
Stormers assistant coach Dawie Snyman gave the update on Moerat’s turf toe injury on Friday afternoon.
He suffered the injury within a few minutes of coming on in the 19-30 defeat to the Sharks in Cape Town last weekend and was yellow-carded moments later for his team’s repeated fouls.
This makes him effectively unavailable for Springbok selection for the Nations Championship matches against England, Scotland, and Wales in July.
“He went in for surgery today after tearing ligaments in his big toe. The feedback from the doctor is that it looks a little bit better, but it’s quite lengthy.
“We are probably looking at four months,” Snyman confirmed.
On the positive side, the Stormers are expecting that a number of their injured players will be ready when the league resumes on the last weekend of February.
Those include Ruhan Nel, Deon Fourie, Saebelo Senatla, and Dan du Plessis.
