German woman refs men's final

Woman referee Kerstin Ljungdahl has been appointed to the men’s Division 1 Cup final between SC 1880 Frankfurt, one of Germany’s oldest sporting clubs, and RC Heidelberg on Saturday.

The competition is 107 years old and this is the first time that a woman has refereed the final.

Kerstin Ljungdahl played flank for Sweden before moving to Berlin. Last year she was one of the eight women referees at the Women’s World Cup in Canada.

SC 1880 last won the championship in 1925 while RG Heidelberg are the titleholders.

International referee Jens Reinecke will referee the second division final between RK Heusenstamm and SC Germania-List, the winner to be promoted to Division 1 next season.
