Referees to 22 September 2013
After the thunder of last weekend's Test in Auckland, this is a still calm, ordinary weekend with provinces and clubs in action.
What all the controversy surrounding refereeing last weekend, the point is again made that rugby football really needs referees and expects high standards of them. They did not earn applause, because they are doing what is expected of them but there are howls of protest rising to the heavens when they make mistakes, because mistakes are not expected of them.
It remains a fact that referees know when they have done well when they are not mentioned at all.
So this weekend there will again be referees striving for perfection and silent applause.
