EXCLUSIVE: Now that the dust has settled on what was a successful first outing for Rassie Erasmus, it was pleasing to see that the coach was not tempted to hand out free Springbok caps – especially in the dead rubber Test.

Despite having numerous options in the broader squad, Erasmus placed his faith on a select few to grind England down and claim a 2-1 series victory. That faith proved that Erasmus wants his players to earn the right to don the Springbok jersey.

Morgan Newman has always been an advocate for not cheapening the value of the Springbok jersey and was pleased that Erasmus was not tempted to follow in others’ footsteps.
