More Springbok caps for Burger?

EXCLUSIVE: Schalk Burger’s contract with Saracens comes to an end in June 2019 but the loose forward has still not closed the door on adding to his 86 Springbok caps.

Burger, who has just returned to the field following a serious injury, has hinted though that he will be calling time on his career once his contract ends at the current Premiership champions.

“You never say never, I obviously know Rassie [Erasmus] very well, worked with him for a long time and you not too sure [if you will receive a call up],” he said.

“Obviously, first and foremost for me is to help Saracens and play as well as I can. The whole first half of the season is about jostling for position and getting yourself into a position to make a big push.

“The immediate future for me is that I have one year left [on my Saracens contract] – finishing up in June. At this moment it looks like I will move on post rugby. [But] I don’t think you will ever say no [to playing for the Springboks],” he added.
