All the Craven Week results

Western Province are the only unbeaten team at the 52nd Craven Week which ended in Stellenbosch on Saturday afternoon.

In their three matches Western Province scored 180 points with 18 against them. They deserve to be ranked the best team at the Craven Week, The nearest they came to being beaten was on the first day when they beat the Blue Bulls 20-13. In their next two matches the Blue Bulls beat the Pumas and Boland by substantial amounts. It suggests that they were the second best side at the Craven Week.

Other teams that had two wins were Boland, Border, Eastern Province, Free State, the two Griqua sides, the Leopards, Namibia South Western Districts and the Valke.

The only teams not to win a match were Border Country Districts and Zimbabwe.   Border Country Districts  lost all three again this year but were much better than in 2014 when they lost all three, scored 14 points and had 225 scored against them. This year they scored 73 with 126 against them.

The weather at Stellenbosch just held. It was cold but the rain stayed away except for the night of Thursday and the free day on Friday. The main Markötter field hosted 22 matches during the week and did not show real signs of a battering till the last match on the last day, but it did not seem toe affect the Western Province team which left Eastern Province so bewildered.

The weather and the field did not stop the vast number of points scored in the 30 matches –  Some 1612 points were scored during the week.

The week was allotted to Paul Roos as a part of their 150th celebrations and they must have been proud of their hosting and of the performances of their own players during the week – Nico Leonard, Joshua Vermeulen,  and Damian Willemse.
