The Golden Lions played the Griffons (formerly Northern Free State) on Loftus Versfeld and beat them 76-21. Both sides ran with the ball and the Griffons actually scored first through centre Dealin Jafta but the Golden Lions responded with 11 tries.

Already there are people who are talking about another Golden Lions-Western Province match as the prestigious end to the Craven Week at St Stithians later in the month.

In the lively last match at Loftus the home side, the Blue Bulls beat the Grey-Louis Botha combination of the Free State 34-30.

In the second last match of the day Border – without the 14 players from Selborne, Dale and Queen's as they were playing at Cape Schools in Cape Town – went down 17-31 to the Pumas.
