SA Rugby’s Youth Weeks Programme is already underway, with the U13 Craven Week playing out at Grey College, and both U16 tournaments staged at Kearsney.

Next week, Grey High School in Gqeberha will host the U18 Craven Week as well as the U18 Girls Week.

With regards to the U18 Craven Week, 16 teams will be in action across the five match days.

Four matches are scheduled for Monday, July 6.

Boland kick off their campaign against the Leopards, Free State face the Limpopo Blue Bulls, the Sharks tackle South Western Districts, and Western Province – who won the Final against SWD last year – take on hosts Eastern Province.

On Tuesday, Border front the Falcons, Griquas face the Pumas, WP XV tackle the Griffons and the Blue Bulls battle the Golden Lions.

A full list of the matchday squads – as first reported by the SuperSportSchools website – can be found further below.

Rugby365 takes a closer look at how South Africa’s leading schools will be represented across the 16 provincial teams.

MOST SCHOOL REPS AT 2026 CRAVEN WEEK

19 – Grey College (Free State)

12 – Diamantveld (Griquas), Drostdy (Boland)

11 – EG Jansen (Valke), Oakdale (SWD), Pietersburg (Limpopo Blue Bulls)

10 – Grey High (EP), Welkom Gim (Griffons)

9 – Middelburg (Pumas)

8 – Rustenburg (Leopards)

7 – Dale College (Border), Garsfontein (Blue Bulls), Noordheuwel (Lions)

WESTERN CAPE

WP have dominated the past five editions of the U18 Craven Week, winning every match during that period.

It remains to be seen whether they will extend their incredible streak in Gqeberha next week – but they have many reasons to feel confident.

Paarl Gimnasium are currently the leading team in the country, followed by Stellenberg and Paul Roos.

While Paarl Boys haven’t been as consistent this season as they were in 2025, they are still among the top 10 teams in the country.

There is a fairly even split between Gimmies (six), Stellenberg (five) and Paul Roos (four) across the main WP team this year.

The WP XV team – effectively the second side – boasts seven players from Boishaai and five from Paul Roos.

The depth in the region is probably best represented by the selections at flyhalf.

Ethan van Biljon (Stellenberg) will start at No.10 for WP, while Travis Pheiffer (Paul Roos) will do the job for WP XV.

Louis Koen – who has spearheaded a Gimmies side that has torn opposition defences to shreds in 2026 – will feature at No.10 for WP at the Academy Week.

There’s bound to be a buzz around the WP teams – due to the strength of the schools in the region and the provincial teams’ record at this tournament – but the Boland and SWD sides should not be underestimated.

Drostdy have been the standout team in the Boland this year, and will supply a whopping 12 players to the Craven Week side.

SWD surprised a lot of people in 2025 when they progressed to the Final. While the impressive No.8 Jacobus de Villiers – the younger brother of Stormers and Springbok flank Paul – is among 11 Oakdale representatives this year, the SWD team will be complemented by nine Outeniqua players.

Oakdale haven’t been as consistent as they were last season, but remain among the nation’s top-ranked schools.

Outeniqua have made terrific gains in recent months, winning seven of their nine fixtures, and beating the likes of Wynberg, EG Jansen and Selborne.

NOORDVAAL

While Garsfontein have edged ahead of local Pretoria rivals Affies in 2026, both are well represented in the Blue Bulls line-up.

Players from Garsies (seven) and Affies (six) form the core of the side – and Garsies flyhalf Ruan Fluks will be one to watch, following his goal-kicking exploits earlier in the season.

Monument have enjoyed a good run up north, and No.10 Jaydon Viljoen has been at the heart of their success.

Viljoen is one of four Monnas players in a Golden Lions side that boasts more representatives from Noordeheuwel (seven) and Jeppe (five).

The Limpopo Blue Bulls have stacked their squad with players from Pietersburg (11) following the side’s 12-from-15 return on the school scene.

Hoérskool Rustenburg (eight) and Hoérskool Middelburg (nine) will power the Leopards and Pumas respectively, while EG Jansen have 11 players in the Falcons line-up.

CENTRAL

Grey College will supply 19 players to the Free State team this season – more than any other team.

It remains to be seen whether that synergy will be Free State’s trump card, as Grey College haven’t had the best season to date – at least not by their own standards, losing four games.

At the very least, the likes of fullback Lamla Mgedezi and centre Eddie Mabena should put on an attacking show.

Like Grey, Diamantveld have blown hot and cold this year, but remain well represented in the provincial team, with 12 players set to feature for Griquas.

The Griffons will rely on a mix of 10 Welkom Gim and six Trio players.

EASTERN CAPE AND KWAZULU-NATAL

Grey High will supply 10 players to Eastern Province, but it’s interesting to note that as many as nine schools will be represented across the match 23 – more than any other team at this year’s tournament.

Only four Graeme College players have made the cut, despite the fact that Graeme have been one of the most consistent teams in the region.

St Andrews (two), Kingswood (2), Andrew Rabie (one), Marlow (one), Nico Malan (one), Pearson (one) and Spandau (one) are all represented.

The leading schools in the Border region boast a similar number of Craven Week players this year – Dale College (seven), Queens (six) and Selborne (five) – even though Dale have dominated the school scene, winning 13 of their 16 matches to date.

The Sharks could make an impression at the 2026 tournament, following a series of encouraging performances by the leading schools – within the region and nationally – over the past few seasons.

At a glance, it looks like an exciting mix of players from Durban High School (who have the most players with five), Northwood, Michaelhouse, Maritzburg College, Westville and Hilton. After a much-improved performance in 2026, Kearsney will supply four players.
