Interprovincial Under-12, Day One report
A cold day in Newcastle was very quickly heated by rugby of spectacular proportions by the Golden Lions and Limpopo Blue Bulls who were the first teams to take the field.
Match 1: Limpopo vs Golden Lions (24-0)
Limpopo clearly came with big intentions and put in a fantastic performance with a 24–0 victory over the Golden Lions. Exceptional performances from Albertus van Deventer and Luan Richter earned them the ‘Man of the match’ awards for forward and backs respectively.

Match 2: Valke vs Leopards (7-5)
After a half of wasted opportunities for the Leopards the scoreboard was left empty with 20 minutes to go. The second half started with a quick try by the Valke and a successful conversion put them 7-0 ahead. Leopards No.8 MJ Pelser scored a great try from a scrum to put them back into the game but unfortunately an unsuccessful conversion left them trailing by two. Man of the match for the forwards was Emele Calitz (3) and Xander van der Walt (9) was the backline player appointed (both from the Valke).

Match 3: Blue Bulls vs Free State (17-7)
In a closely-contested match the Blue Bulls kept out a very spirited Free State side with a final score of 17-7.

The scoreboard isn’t a true reflection of the nature of this match. The Griffons played with conviction till the final whistle blew but with some backline brilliance from the Pumas and more specifically their outside centre they took the victory.
