Narrow margins on Day two

The first two matches of the Day saw Zimbabwe and Border redeem themselves by registering early victories against Border CD 12-6 and Namibia 12-10 respectively.

Border CD and Namibia seem to struggle in the tournament after both losing their opening games on Day one.

Eastern Province cruised to a 27-12 win over Pumas.

While SWD had to dig deep to secure a hard fought victory over the Leopards.

Despite Griffons' gutsy performance in the second half it was not enough to beat a resilient Boland team, who secured a 29-22 win over the man from Northern Free State.

Meanwhile Kwazulu-Natal's did more than enough to secure a victory against Griquas 10-5.

While the Blue Bulls' try were enough to secure them a small margin win over Limpopo Blue Bulls 5-0. the hosts Western Province manage to keep teh Golden Lions at bay with a 5-3 nailbiting win over the team from Gauteng.

In the much anticipated and final macth of the day, Free State's late performance was not enough as they went down 12-16 to much more organized Valke side.

Zimbabwe 12-6 Border CD

The six technical substitutions made by Border CD seem to pay off as their efforts were rewarded with  a penalty. Nceba Luvo Nyabaza stepped up and made no mistake to hand his team the lead.

Just before halftime Zimbabwe manage to penetrate Border CD’s defense through a Hunter Chiutsi try.

In the second half Zimbabwe continue to put on the pressure on Border CD’s defence, eventually  folded as Zimbabwe ran in another try before the final whistle.

Border 12-10 Namibia

The clash between Border and Namibia were really tight as both teams threw everything at one another. Border had the first say as they scored two converted tries before the 17th minute to put pressure on South Africa’s neighboring country. But Namibia hit back just before the break with a converted try of their own. Border took a 12-7 advantage to the break.

Both teams stepped up their defence in the second half and the only points scored was a penalty by Namibia to narrow the score to 10-12.

Boland 29-22 Griffons

Boland ran put 29-22 victors in an eight-try thriller against Griffons. In the first half Boland scored three tries as they continue to put on pressure on the Griffons’ defense, taking a 22-8 advantage at the break. Narrow margins on Day two

Griffons tried hard to work their way back into the match after the break as they cross the try-line on two occasions. But the Boland attack prove too strong as their extended the lead through a try and penalty holding on to a 29-22 victory.

Eastern Province 27-12 Pumas

Eastern Province came out firing in their clash against Pumas. In a exciting first half Eastern Province ran in three tries as they broke through tackled and forced their way through the defence.  Pumas also manage to score a converted try of their own as the teams head to the change rooms with the scoreline 15-7 in Eastern Province favour.

They continued to show their class in the second half with another try after play resumed to stretch the lead to 20-7.  Before the match ended both teams added additional tries to their score respectively before the match ended.

For Pumas:

SWD 21-14 Leopards

SWD opened the scoring with Simeon Oosthuizen getting a double for his team in the first half while Dewanley van Rensburg contributed with the boot though a conversion and a penalty. Just before the break Leopard manage to pull one back through Christipher Albertus try, with Carl Pieter Kleynhans adding the extras.

Kurtley Kiewiet extended SWD lead though a penalty, however Leopards had the final say with a Heinrich Loock converted try.

Kwazulu-Natal 10-5 GriquasNarrow margins on Day two

Kwazulu-Natal were strong at applying pressure on attack by spreading the ball out wide and they earned the rewards with a 5-0 lead at the break after scoring one try before half-time.

As the second half got underway the man from Durban continue to attack in a really cold Paarl, they were soon rewarded with a try. Despite being on the back-foot for most of the match Griquas manage to score a consolations before the final whistle.

Blue Bulls 5-0 Limpopo Blue Bulls

Blue Bulls’ one try by Charl Ehlers in the 7th minute proved enough to secure them a 5-0 victory against Limpopo Blue Bulls.

In a game flooded with injuries, the teams put on a brave performance and really delivered some great, tough rugby that Blue Bulls are known for.  In the second half both teams were unable to influence the score and the final score remained 5-0 to the Blue Bulls.

Western Province 5-3 Golden Lions

The game between the hosts and the Golden Lions was always going to be close in nature and a mere penalty by the Johannesburg side was the only points scored.

Western Province, however, dominated the opeening minutes of the second half as they applied pressure on attack and worked their way close to the Golden Lions tryline on a few occasions. These efforts were rewarded with a try in the 29th minute.

The Cape side led 5-3 with minutes to go, which sparked a spirited fightback by the Golden Lions, but a missed penalty goal on the stroke of fulltime and a determined defensive effort by the hosts earned Western Province the victory.

Valke 16 – 12 Free State

Valke did well to capitalise on their point-scoring chances in a tight first half against the Free State as they scored two tries and slotted over a penalty goal for a handy 13-0 halftime lead.

The opening minutes of the second half were competitive, with both teams attempting to sneak through the defence without success, which prompted the Valke to opt for a drop goal to increase their score to 16-0. Free State, however, refused to give up and scored two tries before the final whistle to reduce the deficit to 16-12.
