1 vs 2 in Premier Interschools

There will be 24 rugby matches between the two schools on Saturday but the 1st XV match will be the huge attraction.

Currently, both teams are unbeaten. Paarl Gim is ranked No.1 on the Schools Ranking, Paul Roos No.2. They both play rugby that allows all 15 players to be thoroughly involved. Both have vigorous packs and skilled, speedy backs.

Paarl Gim have played and won nine matches, Paul Roos eight.. Paarl Gim halved scored 424 points, Paul Roos 505.

They have so far only two opponents in common – SACS and Waterkloof.

History

They are old schools but decidedly different. Both were at least in part religious foundations – Paarl Gim, then, in Paarl's long Main Road, Paul Roos on the banks of the Eerste River with its shady oaks. 

Paarl Gim was founded in 1858, Paul Roos in 1866.

The differences are great. Paul Roos is just a high school and students are all boys, of whom there are some 1 300.

Paarl Gim offers the full 12 years of schooling to boys and girls. It's boys number fewer than 400. This is what makes its achievements on the rugby field all the more astonishing. 

Paul Roos is dual medium, Paarl Gim Afrikaans. In fact Paarl Gim played a significant role in the recognition of Afrikaans.

Recent rugby history is firmly on the side of Paarl Gim. This century they have played 18 times, two have been draw, Paarl Gim have won 13 and Paul Roos three.
