However, due to the water crises in the Western Cape the school have opted to cancel the 2018 edition.

The news was confirmed via a statement on the school's website:

"It is with great disappointment that we announce our decision to cancel the 2018 edition of the Wynberg Winter Sports Festival. With the water crisis deepening, it would be irresponsible to host a mass-participation sporting event while our City is taking extraordinary water management measures to stave off Day Zero, now predicted for April 12,"

The statement further went on to explain: "Should the taps run dry, water collection points will be activated and the impact on our school, work, our families, and our communities is, as yet, only a matter of speculation. Wynberg Boys’ High continues to evaluate our day-to-day water usage, implementing stricter water management policies as needed. We are committed to playing our role to help Cape Town stave off Day Zero.

We apologise sincerely for the inconvenience caused and hope that the situation stabilises sufficiently to allow us to host the Festival in 2019 and beyond,"
