Big home win for Boishaai

With a 47-3 victory over Tygerberg at Brug Street in Paarl, home team Paarl Boys' High recorded their 14th consecutive victory, to maintain their unbeaten record.

In spite of the final score-line, visitors Tygerberg do deserve a lot of credit for their fighting spirit and never-say-die attitude against some overwhelming odds.

In fact, half way through the first half the visitors kept the score-line down to 14-7 and in all departments gave as much as they got.

However, towards the end of the first half it seemed that Boys' High gradually took control of proceedings and found gaps in the visitors’ tight defence. They scored two tries in quick succession to go into the half-time break 26-7 up.

Soon after the restart, Boys' High emphasized their dominance when big tight head prop Leo Kruger burst through a number of would be tacklers to crash over for the home team's fifth try. The flood gates then opened and the talented home team ran in a number of further tries in the process.

For Paarl Boys' High MC de Jongh (hooker), Ruben de Villiers (lock) and Andreas van Wyk (flank and captain) stood out in a hard working pack. Amongst the winners backs Manual Rass (outside centre) once again proved his class and hard running right win Tareeq February also caught the eye.

For the visitors, who impressed with their positive attitude throughout, and willingness to run the ball from deep within their own territory, their hooker and captain Shane Farmer gave a livewire performance. Huge tight-head prop Handré Jooste proved to be a handful to stop with some bullocking runs. Strong number eight Juarno Augustus also made good ground with some strong carries.

The match ended on a sad note when two opposing players Elester Becker (wing) of Boys' High and Shane Farmer from Tygerberg collided head-on and both players were left unconscious which seems like heavy concussion. Both players were taken to hospital. The referee subsequently decided to call off the match with a few minutes playing time remaining.
