Bishops brush Bellville aside

Bishops bounced back well from their defeat to Wynberg last week to record a convincing 94-7 victory over Belville Hoerskool at the Piley Rees field on Saturday.

Although they were well beaten, Bellville put in a valiant defensive effort which left them out on their feet in the second half after doing so much chasing and defending.

The visitors got a deserved consolation try with an intercept right at the death of the match and then spent the final minutes pressing for another try.

Bishops scored 14 tries (12 of which were converted by Cornel Smit), 10 of these coming in the first half, and many of them came from turn-over ball and long-range counter-attacks.

The home side opened the scoring in the third minute and were relentless in a first half that saw them score an incredible 10 tries to take a 68-0 lead into the half-time break.

Sloppy defence was also well exploited by a Bishops side that was brimming with both the confidence and the ability to create and exploit space.

The scorers:

For Bishops:

Tries: Justin Rowe-Roberts, Cornel Smit, Max Linley 2, Gerard Pieterse, André Manuel 3, Keenan Jacobs 3, Justin Heunis, Justin Carey, Saud Abrahams.

Cons: Cornel Smit

For Bellville: TBC
