Bishops go down the Road

They have been playing twice a season for years and years. Do some little multiplication with your two-times tables and you get a vast number of matches over the years. There are, for example 36 this year alone. They are intense matches. If Bishops beat Rondebosch in Saturday season, their season  is made, and if Rondebosch beat Bishops, their season is made. They are intense encounters, nut go through all those years and all those matches and try to fin d an untoward incident. The proximity and the similarities of the two schools make for keener competition but competition that is honourable – part of good education.

The same is true for matches amongst all of the four Southern Suburbs schools.

This year SACS have been doing best but in their last two matches they have lost to Rondebosch and Bishops. In fact Rondebosch has faring best, having beaten Bishops as well. Bishops have beaten SACS and Wynberg have, unusually, gone winless.

There is talk of a Triple Crown, as exists amongst the Four home Unions. Rondebosch have come closest to winning it.

Season So Far

Both are currently in the pressure group just below the 20 who make up the Schools Top 20. Both have reached the group only recently and following wins over SACS.

Of their 17 matches this season, Rondebosch have won nine and drawn one. Of their 17 matches this season Bishops have won eight and drawn one. Bishops have played 10 times against Teams ranked in the Top 20, SACS eight times.`

They played earlier at Bishops and Rondebosch created a bit of a surprise by winning 32-19.
